Members of the RASCOM Board of Directors has joined dignitaries and stakeholders from across the continent for the official launch of the African Space Agency (AfSA). The inauguration ceremony, hosted at AfSA’s newly completed headquarters within the Egyptian Space Agency enclave, marks a bold step forward in consolidating Africa’s efforts in space science, technology, and innovation for sustainable development.

The participation of RASCOM’s Board members underscores the organisation’s deep commitment to continental cooperation in the space sector. Their presence at this historic event not only symbolised solidarity with the African Union’s vision for AfSA but also offered a unique platform for strategic engagement with policy leaders, institutional partners, and private sector actors.

Coinciding with the launch was the successful convening of the 74th RASCOM Board of Directors meeting, also held in Cairo. The session offered a timely opportunity for in-depth discussions on the future of satellite communications across Africa, exploring ways to enhance connectivity, strengthen infrastructure, and drive inclusive digital growth.

Director General of RASCOM, Mr. Timothy Ashong, reflected on the significance of the week’s events:

“The launch of the African Space Agency is a turning point in Africa’s space journey. As pioneers in satellite communications, RASCOM is proud to be part of this evolution. Our Board’s strategic meeting here in Cairo reaffirms our dedication to building robust systems that ensure no African is left behind in the digital age,” Mr. Ashong stated.
“Touring the impressive facilities of the Egyptian Space Agency gave us a glimpse of what’s possible when vision, investment, and cooperation come together. It also strengthens our resolve to accelerate Africa’s progress through space-based solutions.”

Board members also had the opportunity to tour the facilities of the Egyptian Space Agency (EgSA), where they observed cutting-edge infrastructure and gained insights into Egypt’s valuable contributions to both the African and global space landscapes.

The occasion served not only as a celebration of continental progress but also as a powerful platform for networking with leading voices in the space and satellite ecosystem. By reinforcing existing partnerships and exploring new avenues of collaboration, RASCOM continues to play a vital role in advancing Africa’s digital transformation agenda.

As Africa steps boldly into a new space era, RASCOM remains firmly at the forefront—championing shared growth, inclusive innovation, and the harnessing of satellite technology to uplift communities across the continent.
