SYSTEM ARCHITECTURE

The RASCOM telecommunication system is based on a Core System owned and operated by the RASCOM-BOT Project Company to market the system services

The system includes :

  • a space segment including one or more bent-pipe geostationary satellites, with associated ground control and operation facilities (satellite control centre, telecommand, telemetry and ranging stations)
  • a mission segment for the planning and monitoring of the system
  • a business segment in relation with the customers of the RASCOM system
  • a communication network for the interconnection of the different entities of the system
  • regional Network Stations(one per Ku spot beam) operated by the RASCOM-BOT Company
  • operator's gateways interconnecting satellite terminals with existing ground networks, gateways and terminals being operated by the TELCOs in order to offer integrated telephony services to their end users
The integrated telephony services are supported by the ground communication segment, composed of :
  • regional Network Stations (one per Ku spot beam) operated by the RASCOM-BOT Company
  • operator’s gateways interconnecting satellite terminals with existing ground networks, gateways and terminals being operated by the TELCOs in order to offer integrated telephony services to their end users.
Thin route trunking services are supported by a dedicated infrastructure composed of :

the central thin route DAMA station which allocates C band resources on a call-by-call basis and is operated by the RASCOM-BOT Project Company

thin route stations owned and operated by the operators

Conventional transponder lease services (broadcasting, high rate permanent links...) are supported by standard on-the-shelf equipment.
